MAGNOLIUS is a Toronto based hip-hop duo consisting of SVDP & Deadkings Head. The group's eclectic approach to their music and visuals have garnered them worldwide acclaim. Within the past 3 years, MAG has successfully headlined tours across Canada, United States, Asia, Europe, & Brazil. Their debut and sophomore releases were well received by fans and critics alike. The duo's latest effort, "Mary Musth", earned them the "Best Rap" award at the Toronto Independent Music Awards and was nominated for "Best Rap/Hip-hop" album of 2009 at the Independent Music Awards (US). The group is currently working on their third studio album as well as preparing for their second US tour..

Alongside their musical career, MAGNOLIUS also prides themselves as creative entrepreneurs. In the summer of 2008 the group launched The Machine Factory, a multi-faceted art hub which aims to promote social change through creative methods and alternative media. The company's blog is an online gallery of inspiration that features artists from around the world.

"Best Indie Rap album of 2010" - Toronto Independent Music Awards

"Best Hip-hop/Rap" (2010) - Official nominee at the Independent Music Awards (New Jersey)

"Best Hip-hop/Rap Song" (2009)- Official nominee at the Ontario Independent Music Awards

"Operating at the highest level, MAGNOLIUS have crafted a quick-witted hip-hop experience that reveals just how far the genre has progressed in recent years ...'Ode To Hyde' proves that rap can be every bit as creative as jazz. Evidence, then, that hip-hop has well and truly grown up." - RANT MAGAZINE (UK)

"The chemistry between the duo, Shan Vincent de Paul & Derek DaCosta... well if you could bottle it, you could sell it back to N-Power and make some tidy wedge. It's angry and aware, yet sharp and has sense of humor" - WHISPERS Mag (UK)

"Only a few rap artists can claim that that they could do it with one album, and MAGNOLIUS is now one of them" - Steriotoid

"This is not an average rap record. Don't expect to hear the verses book-ended by the hook. The hook is too busy swooping in on shifting sounds as it suits the song, or pleases the craftsmen's whim. Each track's composition is crafted with a level of competency far above the standard kick/snare, bassline, and samples, a construction mainstream hip hop hasn't been able to let go of..." - I LION (Sask.Express)

"best of all is their successful spanning of that sometimes-massive space existing between the disparate sides of tradition and experimentation within hip-hop, moving from one to the other with casual ease." - EXCLAIM! (Toronto)

"every song feels like it came from the heart; and whether it's "Tusk" making it pound at lighting speed or "Mary Mary" grabbing it with the apprehensive flow, the songs are going to try to attack yours at full force" - The Wordbird

"Imagine the best kind of unusual, electronically modified sounds mixed with a range of genres, all laced together with electric, dynamic emceeing. Now imagine tracks about struggles with the inner-self, human exploitation, poverty, and the physical violence one may resort to." - SOUNDPROOF

"The subtle intricacies and dynamic stage presence will captivate audiences." - ARTBEAT (Singapore)
